The 3610QM CPU is VT-x capable and while it is my understanding the Clevo P170EM originally had it disabled and not selectable that was supposedly taken care of in the 1.00.04 version of the BIOS. How many notebooks you know have VT-x control options in BIOS Setup?Īctually many I've worked on are able to enable/disable VT-x in the BIOS although that's irrelevant to the situation at hand because it's your system that has the issue not any of the notebooks I've worked on over the years, and that has been more then I can remember. Since 2007-2008, are there new VT-x blocking features developed so Securable cannot determine VT-x status correctly? What a hell is going with VT-x? In 2008, there were many notebooks with VT-x disabled in BIOS but in 2012, googling shows almost no complains after 2009-2010. Then I found the "havdetectiontool" from Microsoft, ran it and it reported that virtualization is not enabled on my computer. I ran VMware check utility and "Securable" once again and both of them reported that virtualization is enabled. "This host is VT-capable but VT is disabled" and Window 7 in the VM did not boot. Googlingīut when I tried to run VMs (both 32- and 64-bit), I got error messages from Workstation.įor 32-bit guest, it said "Software virtualization is incompatible with long mode on this platform" but the VM appeared to run normally. Then I ran "Securable" and it reported that VT-x is supported and not disabled.

So I ran VMware 64-bit guest check utility on Clevo P170EM under Windows 7 SP1 圆4 and the utility reported that host is capable to run 64-bit guests. I tested Aspire 4920G (T8300), "Securable" reported that VT-x is enabled and Workstation 6.0.x and 8.0.x worked normally, successfully running 32- and 64-bit guests. VMware 64-bit guest checking utility reported that host is capable to run 64-bit guests but VT-x was disabled in MSR and the " Securable" utility reported that it is disabled. Before purchasing, I was afraid if my Workstation can run 32- and 64-bit guests on it because in 2008 I wanted to buy Acer Aspire 7720G (T9300) that is VT-x capable but VT-x was disabled in BIOS. I bought Clevo P170EM notebook (under DNS label) with 3610QM CPU.
